Our Story

My name is Kapil Acharya and I am the founder of Basmati Grocery, an online only home delivery grocery store that caters to the flavors of South Asia. Basmati online grocery was born in Perth, WA as an ode to the lush rice paddies surrounding the foothills of Annapurna Range from my hometown Pokhara, Nepal.
My childhood was painted with the hues of fertile fields beneath the towering Annapurna range. Nestled in the heart of Nepal, our family cherished the traditions of planting rice paddy, fostering a connection to the land that sustained us. Amidst the lush greenery, a distinct aroma wafted through the air – the signature fragrance of basmati and JETHO BUDO rice. This remarkable grain was not just sustenance; it was a symbol of our heritage, used in religious festivals and special occasions that brought our community together.
I still remember the amazing taste, unique flavors, and the tender, full texture of long-grain Basmati rice. These qualities have been the highlight of my journey as an online grocer and entrepreneur. Living in the lovely city of Perth for the past decade, where I'm raising my beloved children, I realized it's important to give them a chance to experience ethnic flavors and foods. This way, they can truly understand the wonderful diversity within our urban community. And so, the concept of Basmati Grocery was born.
With the support of my wife, family and friends, I am now able to share the taste of quality ethnic family foods including spices, teas and ancient grains to the local community by catering local neighborhoods via online ordering.
